Battery Passport QR Code Labels: Design, Printing & Durability
The QR code on your battery label is the physical gateway to the digital passport. If it peels off, fades, or resolves to a broken URL, the entire compliance chain fails at customs, retail, or recycling.
Label Requirements
- QR symbol — machine-readable, sufficient quiet zone, error correction appropriate for industrial environments
- Human-readable UID — printed adjacent to the QR code per Annex XIII labeling rules
- Durability — must survive the battery's operational lifetime (heat, vibration, chemical exposure)
- Contrast & size — scannable by standard smartphone cameras and industrial readers
GS1 Digital Link Encoding
Many EU implementations expect URIs compatible with GS1 Digital Link — embedding the battery UID in a standardized format that works across logistics, retail, and regulatory systems. PassCell generates registry URLs and exports print-ready label assets with QR and UID paired correctly.
Production Line Integration
| Method | Best for |
|---|---|
| Thermal transfer | High-volume EV and industrial lines |
| Laser etch + adhesive QR | Metal housings, harsh environments |
| Inline inkjet | LMT high-mix, variable serial per unit |
Pre-Shipment Scan Test
Scan every QR code before the battery leaves your factory. PassCell binds each UID to a live public registry URL at commit time — if the scan fails in your plant, it will fail at Rotterdam too.
